So, I've got a shiny new website... Now what?!

Arthur C. Clarke

It's been a week of ups and downs this week in the Temple of Doom, the week started on a brilliant high. L.S.H surprised me with a new laptop to edit on. He knew I would struggle to sit at a desk for the length of time it would take to edit a films' worth of footage on my big sexy PC upstairs in the TOD, especially if I've spent an ungodly amount of my spoons creating the subject of said cinematic "masterpiece" **coughs suspiciously** & filming the process. It's nothing ground breaking, he'd done a little bit of research & if I remember rightly, the laptop he bought for me is the best budget laptop for editing in 2026. It's an Acer Something-or-Other*, whom I have christened Rimmer (& if you get the reference... You are my people!).

He's a chonker, weighs roughly the same as my first car & I love him. So, as a practice as a practice, I dug out an old video I filmed waaaaaay back in 2018, it's an unboxing of a beautiful box of vintage sewing gubbins. I looked at a few vlogs on YT regarding the leading editing software packages & apps for tech duffers. Did I go for one of the easy options? No. No, I did not DaVinci Resolve please, thank you very much!

Now, DVR is not some uncrackable cipher, it's very highly thought of, but if you've followed me for a few years, you'll know that I tried recording a few pieces to upload & went for DVR as the software to edit on. I failed miserably. I'm just not a digital person, I do not find anything regarding computing & software in any way intuitive, I would put a respectably sized wager on my being able to build anything physical given enough spoons, time & resources, but 'pooters flummox me completely. Though, along side this I'm a belligerent bugger & I do not like things that defeat me. So, DVR it was to be & do you know what? I'm getting on so much better with it this time around, there must have been some hefty updates to it over the last few years... So, I'm (for now!) picking it up pretty quickly & will upload the "practice" edit to my Patreon

for you to peruse at your leisure, when it's uploaded at least... Happy days!

When I started typing this afternoon, I didn't realise quite how much space had been taken up by technology this week. As a bit of a technophobic noob film maker & content creator, I was expecting a hefty learning curve, but wasn't expecting a bunch of feels to go with it... It's wierd, a mixture of imposter syndrome & in a strange way a bit of a "Huh.... Oookay, now what?! I genuinely don't know how to explain it how I feel now my website, that I've been working towards for months is finally live... It's kind of like my first day in a new job, you know, all the nerves & excitement for a new chapter but once you get through the doors, you discover there's no one here to give me an induction & I don't actually have a job description or any on the job training because it turns out I am the one who has to deliver it , except that's impossible, because I haven't even had my induction yet... FROM WHO?! It's a bonkers emotion I can't quite quite place. Softly, softly, catchy monkey, right? No need to rush into everything at a million miles an hour...

Look at the concentration on that face & I was only pretending to be doing important 'pooter things...

I'll level with you, this shouldn't come as a shock, but, I have little idea of how to actually manage my shiny, sexy, all-singing, all-dancing website & I'm very much learning on the job, bear with me while I work out what all the bells and whistles do... Though, admittedly, the resources are pretty Robin-proof.

In other news, I'm sewing for myself for the first time in more than 2 years this week and I can't wait to get my overexcited mitts back to fondling fabric. I have the absolute honour of walking my fairy goddaughter down the aisle towards her future husband later this month at their outdoor hand fasting ceremony & have decided to make a new Victorian Walking Suit for the occasion. So will be taking a break from the technology for a wee while...

A fact my brain is very happy to learn!
